About

The Brave Voices Project is a multimedia storytelling initiative that highlights the experiences of Princeton alumni of color and is housed within the Carl A. Fields Center at Princeton University. Launched in 2018, the project has interviewed alumni across generations, gathering stories that reflect the ordinary and extraordinary ways they have shaped and been shaped by Princeton University.

The project uplifts alumni voices by exploring how their identities have influenced and been influenced by their time at Princeton, while fostering a more inclusive and representative campus community through storytelling and awareness. Participation is open to all Princeton alumni regardless of identity.

Our Collections

Brave Voices is organized into four distinct collections, each capturing a different moment, movement, or lens of the alumni/student experience:

Stories in Motion: 1990–2018

Collected in 2018

This foundational collection preserves the stories of Princeton alumni of color across nearly three decades. Through deeply personal reflections, alumni share experiences of identity, activism, resilience, and transformation, offering insight into how they navigated and reshaped Princeton during their time on campus.

Princetonians’ Fight for Asian American Studies

Collected in 2020

This collection documents the long arc of advocacy that led to the 2018 approval of Princeton’s Asian American Studies certificate. Featuring voices of students, alumni, faculty, and staff, it traces more than forty years of organizing, coalition-building, and persistence highlighting the collective effort required to institutionalize ethnic studies at Princeton.

Finding Belonging in the Orange Bubble

Collected in 2025

Step inside the “Orange Bubble”, a term often used to describe Princeton’s unique campus environment. In this collection, alumni reflect on the complexities of identity, community, and belonging, sharing the moments, relationships, and challenges that shaped their Princeton journeys.

Native & Indigenous Narratives at Princeton

Collected in 2025

Through podcasts, photography, and film, Native and Indigenous students and alumni share powerful stories of identity and belonging. This collection expands Princeton’s historical narrative by centering Indigenous perspectives and experiences.
